In the evening she had the visit of someone she never thought would come: Janne Ahonen. “Please, come in,” she said when the lawyer told her who was there. She made some tea and they sat in the living room. After the announcement he took the first flight to Helsinki to talk to her. “I was not expecting your visit,” she said. “I know. I haven’t been a real good friend and I apologize. It’s... it’s amazing what you did. How is that possible?” he asked a bit perplexed. “It’s a long work. I needed many years to succeed. It’s not magic. It’s just hard work,” she answered. He stayed silence for long minutes. He was probably thinking of the way to formulate his request. She could feel it when she was looking at him. He didn’t come just to greet. Nobody except maybe Happonen was coming to visit without interest. She decided to wait. “Do you think that you can do again what you did with Lauri?” he finally asked and she smiled. She knew that he would ask something like that. “I don’t know yet,” she answered vaguely. “How much do you want? I can give you all what I have. I can already give you some now.” He seemed to be serious. She knew that he wanted to have his wife back. “No I can’t. You can give me one million Euros, I can’t accept. She is already buried,” she answered and he was a bit surprised. “Do you mean that Lauri never went to the cemetery?” “Right. And this was important. I needed his body right after the death. After the body starts very quickly to change and you can do nothing against it,” she explained. “But how did you get his body?” he asked curious and she smiled. “He gave it to me. We had an agreement.” “But how did he know that he would die? Did he commit suicide?” Janne asked a bit confused. He didn’t understand all what this raise to death meant. “He was sick and there was no hope for him. It was just a matter of time. Do you have anything else to ask?” Janne looked at the living room, a bit lost. “When did he die?” “I don’t remember exactly. In early 2023. January or February. Something like this. Yeah I know. I needed a lot of time before to succeed,” she explained proud of her. “But have you thought that... I mean in case you failed?” “I knew what I was doing.” “Was your lab in the basement?” “Janne, I think that you should go. I’m waiting for a journalist from BBC,” she politely requested.
When he left he felt the needed to talk. But to who? He just went to town and ordered a beer in a bar after dinner. It was the first time since a long time and he didn’t remember how nice the feeling of fresh beer going down in the stomach was. He was looking at his glass and thought that it was the end of all hope. Leena would never comeback. It was already quite late. Some people were already totally drunk and looked ridiculous. He remembered that some years ago he wouldn’t be different. He understood better why nobody wanted to be his friend. “Janne!” When he heard his name he turned and saw Arttu Lappi who sat at his table with his glass of beer. “What are you doing here alone?” Janne asked. “I’m with two colleagues. We were playing Black Jack. I think that I drank a bit too much and I’m unable to count to 21. I lost all my money and I went to order a forth beer. And now I’m with you. And you? What are you doing here?” the lawyer with reddish cheeks asked. “Well... I went to visit Nina and then I felt that I needed a beer.” After these words Arttu laughed. A beer after Nina seemed to be mandatory. This woman had no heart and was cold like ice. “I was thinking that Harri died because of Lauri. He was in the basement,” Janne said. “Are you sure that he was there?” Arttu asked. “Yes, she didn’t answer my question. If it was wrong she would say no. Do you know who is this Lauri?” “No, no idea,” Arttu said while he was thinking. “There is something I don’t get,” Janne added while he looked at his glass. “Why didn’t she save Harri? She said that she raised Lauri from death because he wasn’t buried. Why didn’t she do it for her husband? Especially because his death was unfair,” Janne told. “Maybe because he was too damaged. I mean that his brain was not working at hundred percent. Nevertheless he made great progress the last months,” the lawyer said. “How do you know it?” “He was at my place,” Arttu confessed. When he realized it he was mad at him. Luckily Janne wasn’t a close friend of Nina. “But please, keep it for you. Don’t repeat it,” Arttu requested and Janne promised. “What else do you know about Lauri?” the lawyer asked. “I know that he was sick and he knew that he would die. He gave his body to Nina. And he died in the early 2023. She can’t remember exactly when.” Arttu was thinking. Suddenly his mind was clear. 2023, sick, to give the body. “I sold my body and soul. To the devil?” he murmured to himself and Janne didn’t get it. “What are you talking about Arttu?” “I know who is Lauri!” he exclaimed while he hit his glass which fell from the table and broke on the sticky floor. “Thank you Janne,” he said before to get up and take back his coat in the cloak room.
When he was at home he switched on the light of his computer room. He opened the drawer and took a notepad, a pen and the note of Harri. He was looking at the reverse star. Nina was working for years on the project maybe already before to know Harri. Then she needed a human guinea piggy. She met Matti who was sick. After have discovered his illness he regretted his stupid life. He wanted a second chance and confessed that he had money. First he sold his car and then his flat. He died and Nina got his body. How? That was a mystery. He was then in the basement transformed in a lab. Harri was solving some chemical equations for her. She needed his help. But then he became too curious. He had to go out of the game. Then Havu. What was his role in the plan? Arttu looked a bit closer at the star. He remembered that the three points down are the trinity. Saara was there with the names of Janne and Matti. He knew that the mother was Nina. But who was the father? He was quite sure that it was Havu. But why not Matti? Could he be father while he was... dead? But in a way, nothing was surprising with Nina. He was also thinking that Matti was the toy of Nina. He was having revenge for her. Maybe he had to do what she wanted because she gave him a second chance? Arttu hid again all the documents. He knew that he was in danger. Matti knew how to enter silently in his house. He could kill him while he was sleeping very easily. Before to go to his bedroom he sent a message to his daughter and asked to be really careful. He checked that the door and all the windows were closed. Pillow was looking at him from his basket in the living room. He didn’t get why his owner looked so stressed. He would definitively never understand human’s emotions.
The end
